Challenging to managing behaviours (Primary)

A workshop for parents of 5 to 10 year olds to help you to manage their challenging behaviours.

Understand and recognise factors which can impact child behaviour and learn techniques and strategies for effective behaviour management.

Delivered by BICS practitioners Danielle Stoller and Amelia Balchin.

Sehar & Noah – from Challenging to managing (session 1)

The video looks at what behaviours that challenge look like. The video:

• introduces the Non Violent Resistance approach
• understands the impact on the family system as well as the young person themselves
• understands what factors lead to these behaviours and how they can be a form of communication.

From challenging to managing behaviours

This is a 4 part online workshop to support parents and provide strategies in managing behaviours that challenge.

It is aimed at parents of young people aged 3 to 17.

We will look at understanding behaviours that challenge, responding to them through regulating the young person and relating to them.

We will be using the Non Violent Resistance (NVR) parenting approach as we work through these sessions.

Attending these workshops does not provide support for severe behaviours that challenge. If you are interested in attending the NVR course, please contact RISE at info@risemutual.org

Session 1

We will:

• discuss what behaviours that challenge look like and introduce the Non Violent Resistance approach
• look to define this and understand the impact on the family system as well as the young person themselves
• understand what factors lead to these behaviours and how they can be a form of communication

Session 2

We will:

• move our focus to preventing behaviours that challenge and understanding the functions they serve
• explore mindfulness and resilience building
• increase parental presence

Session 3

We will:

• look at how we can respond to behaviours that challenge
• become more curious about the child’s behaviour
• understand how to de-escalate when the ‘iron is cold.’
• look to continuing parental presence through connection

Session 4

We will:

• continue to look at how we can respond to behaviours that challenge
• focus on active resistance and the announcement element of the Non Violent Resistance approach
• discuss the impact upon siblings
• discuss how we can look after ourselves

Feeling better about going back to school

A workshop for secondary school students on managing anxiety after lockdown.

Learn useful strategies and tips to cope with anxious feelings after lockdown, self-isolation, school holidays or in general.

The transition from primary to secondary school

Moving from primary to secondary school can sometimes feel very scary. You may not have the chance to celebrate or say goodbye to your friends and teachers during COVID-19.

Learn some useful strategies for managing change, coping with worries, uncertainty, and the move to your new school.

Managing anxiety in Early Years

A workshop for parents of 2 to 5 year olds to help you understand their fears and worries.

It offers a brief insight into the reasons we become anxious and the relationship between thoughts, emotions, physical symptoms, and behaviour. It outlines strategies you can use to support your child, such as building up brave behaviour, managing worries and problem solving.

Sleep Tight: Video for parents of 5 to 10 year olds

A workshop for parents of 5 to 10 year olds to help you understand common childhood bedtime struggles and how sleep can be disrupted.

Learn how to build a positive bedtime routine and encourage good sleep habits.

Managing Exam Stress

Learn how to support yourself emotionally whilst preparing for, and sitting, your exams.

Delivered by BICS practitioners Maria Valdrighi and Hannah Riley.

Supporting your child's self-image

‘In this workshop we discuss what self-esteem is, how to spot signs that a child may be experiencing low self-esteem, and the factors influencing its development. We then share some useful practical strategies that you can use to boost your child’s confidence and support them to develop a more positive view of themselves’
